How to Renew a Trade Licence and Commercial Registration in Qatar (2026 Guide)

How to Renew a Trade Licence and Commercial Registration in Qatar (2026 Guide)

Short answer: in Qatar you renew your Commercial Registration (CR) and trade licence together through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Single Window portal. MOCI allows renewal for one year or for a longer period of up to five years, and the licence cannot run longer than the CR. You need your current records, a valid premises contract and an updated National Address.

A lapsed trade licence can stall visas, bank activity and government transactions, so renewal is one of the most important recurring jobs for any Qatar company. This guide explains how renewal works, how long you can renew for, what to prepare, why renewals get rejected and when it makes sense to hand the job to a PRO. We leave out fees, fine amounts and processing times on purpose: they depend on the activity and change over time, and we confirm them in consultation. Last reviewed: October 2026.

How do you renew a trade licence in Qatar?

Renewal is done online through the MOCI Single Window. MOCI announced that commercial registrations and licences can be renewed through the Single Window or the ministry's website (MOCI announcement as reported by Qatar Tribune), and press reports say establishment and renewal services moved to the Single Window only from 28 February 2021. In practice the sequence is:

  1. Check the expiry dates of your CR, trade licence and establishment card.
  2. Confirm your National Address data is up to date, because MOCI has said registrations and licences will not be renewed without it.
  3. Check that your premises contract is valid and covers the period you want.
  4. Log in to the Single Window with an authorised user and start the comprehensive renewal transaction.
  5. Choose the renewal period, review the details and pay the government charges shown.
  6. Download the renewed CR and licence, then update dependent records such as the establishment card, bank file and Chamber membership.

The Single Window's comprehensive renewal service renews the CR for the whole organisation, main registration and branches together; the CR cannot be renewed on its own for just one branch. See the Single Window investor portal for the live service description.

How long can you renew a commercial registration and trade licence for?

MOCI states that the CR and licence can be renewed for one year or for other periods up to a maximum of five years, and that the licence period must match the CR's. This follows Cabinet Decision No. 31 of 2019 (registration period in the Commercial Register) and Decision No. 30 of 2019 (licensing period for commercial and industrial outlets), as reported in the press at the time. Older guides that say licences are valid for one year only predate this option.

Is it better to renew for one year or five?

A longer renewal cuts down the number of yearly filings and the risk of missing a deadline, but the right choice depends on your situation. Consider whether your premises contract runs that long, whether you expect to change activity, shareholders or address in the next few years, and what your cash flow can carry up front. Because the licence cannot outlast the CR, and amendments can be filed during the period, many owners match the term to their lease. We do not quote the fee difference because it varies by activity; ask for an itemised figure for each option.

What do you need ready before renewing?

MOCI and the Single Window are the final word, but these items are the usual dependencies:

  • Current CR and trade licence, with the expiry dates noted
  • An updated National Address for the establishment
  • A valid premises contract covering the new period, in the form accepted for your activity
  • An authorised user with Single Window access (the owner, manager or an authorised representative)
  • Any activity approvals that expire on their own schedule, for example sector permits
  • No unresolved blocks on the establishment, such as pending amendments

Third-party guides also list the Chamber of Commerce membership as a separate renewal and describe the tenancy contract as needing municipality approval. Rules differ by premises type and activity, so we treat these as points to confirm rather than fixed requirements.

Why do trade licence renewals get rejected or delayed?

The common causes are practical rather than legal. An expired or mismatched premises contract is the most frequent. Outdated National Address data comes next, since MOCI has said it will block renewal. Other causes include an activity that now needs an approval that was not required at registration, shareholder or manager details that no longer match the records after a change, and a user without the right authority on the portal. A pre-renewal review of each item above catches nearly all of them.

What happens if you let the licence expire?

We do not quote penalty amounts because we could not verify a current official schedule for this guide. What is clear is the knock-on effect: a company without a valid CR and licence cannot reliably transact with government departments, and linked services such as the establishment card, visas and banking can be affected. Treat the expiry date as a hard deadline and start at least a few weeks ahead, particularly if a lease or address needs updating first.

What does a PRO do in a trade licence renewal?

A PRO (public relations officer, locally called a mandoob) acts as the company's liaison with government departments. For a renewal this typically means tracking expiry dates, checking the pack, filing on the Single Window, following up and updating dependent records. Metrash2, the Ministry of Interior's platform, requires company users to be authorised, which is one reason a PRO needs a clear authorisation from you. Agree scope in writing, ask who holds the portal credentials, and make sure you receive the renewed documents directly. Crown's trade licence renewal service and annual PRO packages cover this end to end.

Which other renewals fall due at the same time?

Renewing the licence is rarely the only task. Check these in the same window:

Which official sources should you check?

Confirm the current process on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry website and the Single Window investor portal, and use Hukoomi to find related e-services. Free zone and QFC companies renew with their own authorities, not MOCI: see Qatar Free Zones Authority and the Qatar Financial Centre.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I renew my trade licence in Qatar? Online through the MOCI Single Window for mainland companies. Free zone and QFC entities renew with their own authority.

Can I renew for five years? MOCI says registrations and licences can be renewed for one year or other periods up to five years, with the licence period matching the CR.

Can I renew the CR and the licence separately? They are renewed together through the comprehensive renewal service, and the licence cannot exceed the CR period. The CR is renewed for the main registration and branches together.

How much does renewal cost? Government charges depend on the activity and the period chosen and are shown on the portal before payment. Crown's professional fee is quoted after a free consultation.

Do I need a PRO to renew? Not legally for every case, but many companies use one to avoid missed deadlines and rejected filings. You must give any PRO clear written authority.

Can Crown Services renew my licence for me? Yes. We check your records, prepare the pack, file the renewal and update linked records. Book a free consultation and we will confirm your expiry dates and requirements.
